JUNIOR SQUAD DIVISION
This division is for applicants between the ages of 14 years and 18 years as long as they are still in high school
Junior Squad Policies & Procedures
- GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- Juniors are required to attend a minimum of 4 meetings and 4 drills per year.
- Juniors will be certified in CPR within 120 days of acceptance into the agency if they are not already.
- It is the Juniors responsibility to maintain a current CPR card.
- Juniors must utilize EMS Manager for scheduling purposes.
- If you cannot access EMS Manager, contact the Captain
- Juniors are only allowed to be a member of one other FIRE/EMS organization only.
- Juniors are only eligible for membership from the ages 14 years to 18 years.
- Any Junior member that reaches the age of 18 years, but still in high school can continue to be a Junior member until the time of graduation.
- After the Age of 18 Juniors can apply for Senior Membership.
- It is mandatory that all Junior members complete HIPPAA, Sexual Harassment & Blood Borne Pathogens training within 120 days of initial start date.
- It is the Juniors responsibility to complete HIPPAA, Sexual Harassment & Blood borne Pathogens training every year.
- MINIMUM & MAXIMUM RIDE TIMES / REQUIREMENTS
- All Junior Members are committed to ride a minimum of (4) four hours a month.
- If you are unable to fulfill your requirements, please let the Captain know in advance with valid reasoning.
- Juniors cannot exceed a maximum of (40) forty hours a month.
- DO NOT ATTEMPT to pull more than 40 hrs without prior approval.
- Special events coverage time will only be listed as additional hours and will not count toward duty requirements.
- Junior members can only ride (12) consecutive hours at a time.
- It is YOUR responsibility to keep track of the amount of hours scheduled/worked per month.
- Junior Members can pull between the hours of 0600 to 2200.
- If there is no crew in the building, you will have to wait until someone arrives.
- You will need a Release Form signed to be able to stay at the station alone.
- NO leaving the building once you have arrived for your shift without a Senior Member.
- ALL JUNIORS must pull from the station. NO EXCEPTIONS!
- All Junior Members are committed to ride a minimum of (4) four hours a month.
- ON DUTY CONDUCT & IMAGE
- A professional appearance and attitude must be maintained while at the squad, on calls, at the hospital and while wearing squad attire.
- You are held to a higher standard than your peers.
- Must be properly groomed and wearing clean clothing.
- Must wear work boots.
- Must wear black EMS/Cargo pants.
- Your hair must be pulled back into a ponytail if it reaches your shoulders.
- No facial jewelry and any type of “dangling” earrings shall be worn while on duty.
- Necklaces other than for religious purposes or if it cannot be concealed under a shirt, will not be permitted due to safety reasons.
- If Junior Members are not in appropriate attire, they will be sent home.
- Juniors are NOT allowed to carry EMS knives due to liability.
- Junior members CANNOT wear any other Fire/EMS attire while on duty.
- Junior members CANNOT have any markings on their vehicles that are EMS in nature and/or signify that you are a member of BRRS of any sort unless provided by the Captain.
- A professional appearance and attitude must be maintained while at the squad, on calls, at the hospital and while wearing squad attire.
- Junior members will be expected to follow the “House Rules”
- No foul language of any kind will be tolerated during and in between calls.
- No watching provocative and/or inappropriate movies/shows at the building.
- No tobacco use and/or electronic cigarettes will be permitted.
- Junior members ARE NOT ALLOWED to invite friends over to the building while on duty.
- ON DUTY PRACTICE
- There will be no First Response by Junior Members regardless of certifications.
- Junior’s safety is priority.
- Seatbelts and Masks/Gloves as needed.
- If asked to stay in the ambulance while on a call please do, it’s for your safety.
- If any issue arises with a Senior Member, please contact the Captain.
- If you have questions in regards to the call, please ask after patient care has been turned over, as not to interfere with patient/provider relationship.
- Never question a member’s care in front of the patient.
- PLEASE ask before acting……
- Ask the lead Provider what he/she wants you to do FIRST.
- NEVER initiate patient care unless asked to do so.
- NEVER interview patients and/or bystanders unless asked to do so.
- NEVER go through a patient’s belongings unless asked to do so.
- NEVER leave the area where the crew is unless asked to do so.
- NEVER put yourself in harm’s way.
- If at any time you are concerned with a call or anything at all, contact the Captain.
- If you are uncomfortable with a task asked of you, please inform the Captain. You will NOT be reprimanded.
- DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS
- First Offense: Verbal Warning
- Second Offense: Written Warning and consult with your parents.
- Third Offense: Removal from Junior Program.
- If these offenses are within 12 months from the first offense and as long as it’s for the same offense, they will be enforced.
- If (2) third offenses have been reached within 6 months, there will be a full expulsion from the Junior Membership along with a consultation with your parents.
- The Board of Directors will enforce any and all disciplinary actions.
- MISCELLANEOUS
- Senior members are in charge and responsible for you.
- Senior members are responsible for ALL patient care.
- If a senior member tells you to stay in the ambulance, you stay!
- Show up for duty on time, always in uniform
- DO NOT talk about calls/patients to ANYONE outside of QEMS.
- COMPLY WITH HIPAA
- No photos will be taken during calls.
- DO NOT SHARE ANYTHING on Facebook, Emails, Texting, Snapchat, etc in regards to calls.
- Cell Phones or any electronic devices will NOT be used during calls and at the hospital.
- NO SOCIAL MEDIA!!!!!!!
